In the Air Tonight (Sisters of the Craft #1) by Lori Handeland *Review*

* I received a  eARC of this book for my honest review*

Four centuries ago, in a small Scottish village, three baby girls escaped the wrath of a witch hunter. Today, one young woman will learn about her secret history, her heart's destiny, and the sisters she never knew she had...

With her blue-black hair and dark eyes, Raye Larsen has never fit in with the Scandinavian community of New Bergin, Wisconsin. Being adopted is part of the reason she feels like an outsider, but what really sets Raye apart is her ability to see dead people. Everywhere.

She’s learned to keep her visions to herself . . . until she stumbles onto the ghost of a murder victim who needs Raye’s help. Enter Bobby Doucet, a distractingly handsome homicide detective who has been tracking a killer all the way from New Orleans. Could this be the break in his case he’s been looking for all along?

Meanwhile, the deeper Raye gets involved with the case—and with Bobby—the closer she comes to unlocking the mystery of her own origins. What she discovers about herself could destroy everything she knows . . . and everyone she loves. Is finding the truth worth the risk?

MY THOUGHTS

I had never read any other books by Lori Handeland  and I have to admit I had never heard of her until about a week ago but this book sounded interesting so I just had to read it.

In the Air Tonight is the first book in the Sisters of the Craft trilogy and I have to say I am so happy I read it and can't wait to read the other two books.  This urban fantasy got me hooked from the very beginning. It has a bit of mystery, romance, humour, witches and ghosts. I love the story and the characters.

I couldn't put this book down and I didn't want to.  Once it was over I wanted to start the next book.

I highly recommend In the Air Tonight by Lori Handland.

I give this book 5 out of 5.

In the Air Tonight will be out in stores June 2nd 2015. If you want to purchase this you can do so at amazon.com, amazon.ca, Chapters Indigo, Book Depository and other retailers.

Just One Taste (Pine Mountain #4.5) by Kimberly Kincaid *Review*

* I received a eARC of this for my honest review*

Jesse Oliver was a medic in Afghanistan, but back home in Pine Mountain he’s happy to switch gears as the Double Shot bar’s new sous chef. When his apartment floods and his old Army buddy offers the family’s dilapidated lake house as temporary quarters, Jesse thinks a little remodeling on the creaky duplex sounds like a fair return favor. That’s before he sets eyes on the gorgeous woman moving into the other side of the cabin—and discovers she’s his buddy’s kid sister, a.k.a totally off limits.

Kat McMarrin has fought hard for her space, and she’s not too interested in sharing it. Of course, her job as a physical therapist means she won’t see much of Jesse, even if he’s a few thin floorboards away—unless she seeks him out. And with his sculpted body and slow-burn gaze, she might be tempted. Maybe the fixer-upper projects she has planned for the cabin will keep her mind off him. Or maybe her instincts to strip the place down will get out of hand…

MY THOUGHTS

I don't think I have ever read anything by Kimberly Kincaid before but this story sounded interesting so I decided to read it.

It is a quick and easy read that I just couldn't put down at all. I read it in one sitting.

Now I can't wait to read more of Kimberly's books and hopefully I will be able to read this series very soon.

I highly recommend.

I give this 4 out of 5.

Best Man...with Benefits by Nancy Warren *Review*

*I received a e-ARC of this for my honest review*

Lauren Sanger is practically the perfect maid of honor, except for one tiny flaw. She hates the best man. Jackson Monaghan is beyond hot—his body is the stuff of sexy lady dreams—but he's just such a jerk. So when a prank lands them in the same bed, Lauren should have flipped out…instead of having the best sex of her life with the best man!

Jackson can't figure out how two people with anti-chemistry during the day can have such a wickedly hot sexual chemistry at night. Worse still, he wants more. Enough to dare Lauren into doing the last thing she should be doing—him. But friends with benefits is one thing…enemies with benefits is quite another.

MY  THOUGHTS

I admit, I do sometimes read the Harlequin novels.  I do when I need some light and quick to read.

I started reading this book one night and if it weren't for the fact that I was so tired I know I would have read this in one sitting but only ended up reading a few pages that night.  The next afternoon I read the rest of the book.  I was only planning on reading a chapter but ended up reading it all.

I absolutely loved this one. I loved the characters and this book is well written.

If you are looking for a fast and easy read I highly recommend this one.

Lost & Found: A Novel by Brooke Davis *Review*

*I was given a paperback copy of this book for my honest review*

Millie Bird, seven years old and ever hopeful, always wears red gumboots to match her curly hair. Her struggling mother, grieving the death of Millie’s father, leaves her in the big ladies’ underwear department of a local store and never returns.

Agatha Pantha, eighty-two, hasn't left her house—or spoken to another human being—since she was widowed seven years ago. She fills the silences by yelling at passersby, watching loud static on the TV, and maintaining a strict daily schedule.

Karl the Touch Typist, eighty-seven, once used his fingers to type out love notes on his wife’s skin. Now that she’s gone, he types his words out into the air as he speaks. Karl’s been committed to a nursing home, but in a moment of clarity and joy, he escapes. Now he’s on the lam.

Brought together in strange circumstances, the three will embark upon a road trip across Western Australia to find Millie’s mum. Along the way, Karl wants to find out how to be a man again, and Agatha just wants everything to go back to how it was. Together, they will discover that old age is not the same as death, that the young can be wise, and that letting yourself feel sad once in a while just might be the key to a happy life.

MY THOUGHTS

I have seen this book in other blogs and vlogs and I just keep hearing good things about this book.

It is quirky, entertaining, quick and easy book that is different from what I would usually read.

I liked this book and I read this one in an afternoon . I found that the ending took me by surprise because it just kind of happened with no warning and no real conclusion to events.

I give this 3 out of 5

End of Days (Penryn & the End of Days #3) by Susan Ee *Review*

*I received a paperback copy of this book for my honest review*

After a daring escape from the angels, Penryn and Raffe are on the run. They’re both desperate to find a doctor who can reverse the twisted changes inflicted by the angels on Raffe and Penryn’s sister. As they set off in search of answers, a startling revelation about Raffe’s past unleashes dark forces that threaten them all.

When the angels release an apocalyptic nightmare onto humans, both sides are set on a path toward war. As unlikely alliances form and strategies shift, who will emerge victorious? Forced to pick sides in the fight for control of the earthly realm, Raffe and Penryn must choose: Their own kind, or each other?

MY THOUGHTS

I have recently read all three books in the Penryn & the End of Days series and I have to say this is the very first trilogy that has angels in it that I have actually read.  I have read stand-alone and first book in a series before but this is the first time I actually loved an angel series.

I love the writing and I got hooked from the very beginning of this series that I read it all one day without even noticing the time go by very fast. I just couldn't stop reading it because I just couldn't wait to see what would happen next .

I am sad that this series is over but I know I will most likely be reading all three books again in the future.

I give this book 5 out of 5.

All Played Out By by Cora Carmack *Review*

*I received a copy of this book from the publisher for my honest review*

First person in her family to go to college? CHECK.
Straight A’s? CHECK.
On track to graduate early? CHECK.
Social life? …..yeah, about that….

With just a few weeks until she graduates, Antonella DeLuca’s beginning to worry that maybe she hasn’t had the full college experience. (Okay... Scratch that. She knows she hasn't had the full college experience).

So Nell does what a smart, dedicated girl like herself does best. She makes a "to do" list of normal college activities.

Item #1? Hook up with a jock.

Rusk University wide receiver Mateo Torres practically wrote the playbook for normal college living. When he’s not on the field, he excels at partying, girls, and more partying. As long as he keeps things light and easy, it's impossible to get hurt... again. But something about the quiet, shy, sexy-as-hell Nell gets under his skin, and when he learns about her list, he makes it his mission to help her complete it.

Torres is the definition of confident (And sexy. And wild), and he opens up a side of Nell that she's never known. But as they begin to check off each crazy, exciting, normal item, Nell finds that her frivolous list leads to something more serious than she bargained for. And while Torres is used to taking risks on the field, he has to decide if he's willing to take the chance when it's more than just a game.

Together they will have to decide if what they have is just part of the experiment or a chance at something real.

MY THOUGHTS

I had never read the previous 2 books in this series (Rusk University) and I had never read any other books by Cora Carmack but I had been wanting to for a while because I keep hearing fantastic things about her books so when I received a copy of All Played Out I just couldn't wait to read it.

I read this book on Friday and it didn't take me long to read this since it is a quick, fun and easy read. It is very well written and it did get me hooked right away.

I give this 4 out of 5.

World After (Penryn & the End of Days #2) by Susan Ee *Review*

* I received a ecopy of this book for my honest review*

When a group of people capture Penryn's sister Paige, thinking she's a monster, the situation ends in a massacre. Paige disappears. Humans are terrified. Mom is heartbroken.

Penryn drives through the streets of San Francisco looking for Paige. Why are the streets so empty? Where is everybody? Her search leads her into the heart of the angels' secret plans where she catches a glimpse of their motivations, and learns the horrifying extent to which the angels are willing to go.

Meanwhile, Raffe hunts for his wings. Without them, he can't rejoin the angels, can't take his rightful place as one of their leaders. When faced with recapturing his wings or helping Penryn survive, which will he choose?

MY THOUGHTS

I found this one not as good as the first one but it was still good. I found the beginning was boring but after a few chapters it became fast paced and I just couldn't put it down and I tried not to unless I really had to because I just couldn't wait to see what happens at the end and then once it was over I wanted to read the third book.

I am usually very picky when it comes to angel books and it is actually rare that I will find some that I like. Even more rare that I find a series about angels that I actually like so Susan Ee is doing a excellent job keeping me into the series.

I highly recommend this YA angels book.

Fear drained away as he watched her from underneath his lashes. One long gold-painted nail beckoned to him. She lay draped across the chaise. The blood-red silks that hung from her shoulders were fastened only with a girdle of twined gold at her waist. Outside, the wind began to wail. Sand shushed against the walls of the tent. The scent of cinnamon and something else he could not name suffused the hot, dry air inside. In the dim light her skin glowed with perspiration and the very air vibrated with her vitality. Under the almost transparent fabric her nipples were clearly visible. He did not want to respond to her. But his swelling need surged over him.
“Come," she said. He could lose himself in those black eyes, lined with kohl.
He staggered to his feet. His naked body was still damp from bathing in the muddy pool of the oasis. His shoulder bled, as well as his thigh. She would like that.
She pointed to a place at her side. He dropped to his knees again. He knew what she wanted, and suddenly he wanted to give it to her more than he had ever wanted anything in his life. As she reached for him her eyes began to glow red, blood-red like her silks.

Earth & Sky (Earth & Sky #1) by Megan Crewe *Review*

*I received a free ecopy of this book for my honest review*

Seventeen-year-old Skylar has been haunted for as long as she can remember by fleeting yet powerful sensations that something is horribly wrong. But despite the panic attacks tormenting her, nothing ever happens, and Sky’s beginning to think she’s crazy. Then she meets a mysterious, otherworldly boy named Win and discovers the shocking truth her premonitions have tapped into: our world no longer belongs to us. For thousands of years, Earth has been at the mercy of alien scientists who care nothing for its inhabitants and are using us as the unwitting subjects of their time-manipulating experiments. Win belongs to a rebel faction seeking to put a stop to it, and he needs Skylar’s help--but with each shift in the past, the very fabric of reality is unraveling, and soon there may be no Earth left to save.

MY  THOUGHTS

I had such high hopes for this book. I had read the description and it sounded so interesting and I was excited to read it because I like book that has time traveling but I had not read many books with aliens.

Anyway, this book was ok. Not something I will read again and I actually lost interest in this book but I forced myself to read it just because it is a book I had to read and review. If it weren't a book to review I most likely would have quit it.
I do have the second book to read and review and I am hoping it will better than this one.

Maybe you will like it but personally it just wasn't exciting.

I give this 2 out of 5.

It's been six weeks since the angels of the apocalypse destroyed the world as we know it. Only pockets of humanity remain.

Savage street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night.

When angels fly away with a helpless girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back...

MY THOUGHTS

I had tried reading this book back in March and I just couldn't get into it but I was stressed out at the time and just couldn't get into much so I decided to put it aside and start it again once I was feeling better.

I started reading a few days ago and I pretty much read it all in one day. I am so glad I decided to pick it up again because I absolutely loved this book and I can't wait to pick up the second book in this series which I will start sometime today.

I admit I don't often read books with angels is it boy OMG this books is fantastic and it got me hooked. It is one I couldn't put down and if it weren't that I was so very tired last night I would have started reading World After right away.

I highly recommend this book.

EXCERPT

From several points in the room, Greta heard a soft hiss. “The Ghost.” Jax swiveled, then froze, her Lava Lamp forgotten.
For Greta, things started to move in slow motion. She felt a tug, almost physical, from behind her. She turned like she was moving through viscous liquid.
The man who strode through the crowd had shaggy dark hair, a long leather duster and stubble of at least three days. That’s where the similarity to the jerk who’d just been tossed out ended. This guy was no poseur. He couldn’t care less about the crowd. He didn’t even spare them a glance. The fierce look in his eyes was all for the red-washed stage. He strode toward it like he was moving through hell toward redemption.
“Get people on the sound board and the lights,” a hefty man hissed to someone in the shadows. Club manager? Several guys in black jeans and tee shirts scurried away
Greta was having a hard time catching her breath. What was with that? Yeah, the guy was a looker, but she’d been hanging out with beautiful men since she was twelve, and they’d never affected her this way. Cheekbones? Check.
Strong jaw? Likewise. But his chin had a dimple, if she wasn’t mistaken. His lips were full, sensual. He felt dangerous, but contradictory.
The crowd didn’t yell at the newcomer or jeer. They backed out of his way respectfully. The guy hopped up on the stage and surveyed the instruments abandoned there, his back to the crowd. He glanced to the keyboards but settled on a guitar, a candy-apple red one that glinted in the dim light. He picked it up, flipped a few switches on the amp and corrected the tuning. Back still to the audience, he strummed a chord that seemed to reach right down into your guts and quiver. As the echo died away, the man on stage threw his head back and began to play in earnest. It was no song she knew. She’d be willing to bet no one except this Ghost knew that song. The cascading notes were angry, but with a sobbing sound below that vibrated with sadness in your lungs. The notes started to soar only to be dashed to earth again and again by evil riffs. It was as if the man was ripping out his soul with that music. It went on and on. Nobody danced. Nobody fidgeted. Nobody talked. Nobody got up to go to the bathroom. They just listened, mesmerized. Maybe they knew they’d never hear something like this again.
He turned around to the audience, but Greta knew he wasn’t seeing anybody in the room. Emotions flickered across his expression as he pulled out those wild notes and sent them skittering or thundering or sidling slyly into the room.
When the last resounding chord crashed into silence, he stood with head down. The place erupted in applause and shouts. “Ghost!” Greta felt like a linen suit in Arizona in the summertime. She came to herself and grabbed for her martini. Her hand was shaking.
What the hell?
